My Morning routine
My morning routine for me always used to vary before I started this little list. I never had a set plan which quite often meant I ended up spending that extra bit of time in the morning curled up in bed scrolling through instagram or something similar instead of doing anything productive with the start of my day. Following this routine of mine guaranteed me a positive start to my day which in turn allowed me to understand the value in the healthy habits I was creating for myself.
It is so easy to go through life saying things like “I don’t have time to go to the gym today or to keep my house tidy or to plan ahead for healthy nourishing meals”. The thing is, there is always time to fit these practises in, it’s just about what we prioritise. I have been reading a book lately that I am loving & have drawn a lot of inspiration from called Womens Wisdom Wellness by Dr Libby Weaver. She has a quote in the book that says “All of the tiny decisions you make throughout your day, create your lifestyle”.
So here is it
I wake up with a fresh shower & skincare routine. This makes me feel refreshed & rejuvenated.
(always hot showers especially in the winter, I haven’t quite got into the whole cold shower trend that’s happening at the moment)
For my skincare routine I am currently using the Aveda Botanical Kinetics range, they are all plant based & smells amazing. It’s quite a simple routine cleanse, toner & moisturise.
I then like to go & make myself a big glass of lemon water, if I have it in the garden I will add some mint & a slice of ginger. Having this first thing in the morning has a lot of health benefits & also keeps my body hydrated. Sometimes if I feel like something different I will make a cup of tea. Rooibos is my favourite, a South African tea with health benefits such as anti-inflammatory powers and antioxidant content.
Move my body
I try to consistently do 10 minutes of movement every morning. So I will find a nice space in the house or out in the morning sunshine, roll out my yoga mat, put on a music playlist from my spotify & either do some yoga or just stretch. A little while ago I purchased a get bendy poster from Elle Fit Active which is also great to follow through if I’m feeling like a full body stretch & destress remedy.
Make a healthy breakfast. I would usually have poached eggs on toast with sprouts or combine it with what we had from the night before. Basically what ever is in the fridge. I also love freshly pressed juices, my favourite would be a combination of lemon, ginger, apple, carrot & beetroot. I haven’t been able to get myself a juicer since moving over to the West Coast so that will be on my list!
I like to add extra support to my immune system so depending on how I’m feeling I will have BioCeuticals Vitamins in the morning along with my breakfast. I also am obsessed with Udo’s oil & hemp seeds, both are high in Omega3 & very healthy for you. They can both be added in with your food or juices.
I have three little lists that I like to go over with my breakfast
My weekly health planner.
This documents what I am having for my meals & what I am doing fitness wise.
My weekly planner.
This documents my everyday events, appointments or things that I have on for the week.
This is for my to do lists like chores, tasks, things I need to get done or my grocery list.
I like having these to go over or add to each week as they keep me on track & make me feel like everything is organised.
Now I generally always go on from here to do a fitness class, gym or a walk along the beach. If I have work & not much time that particular morning or if I am feeling sore & need that extra little bit of rest I would pop down to my favourite cafe Drift Kitchen in Scarborough & grab a coffee.
I really hope you try some of these things in your own life. I was surprised at how much of a positive impact these little changes of habits had in my life.
And of course, let me know if you do and if it helps you in anyway. Would also love to hear what some of you do for your morning routines!
